Verse of the Day

From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. —Psalm 3:8

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

God is The Great Deliverer! That’s his chosen expertise. Whether it was delivering the Israelites from Egypt through the Red Sea from Pharaoh’s army ages ago or rescuing a sinner from sin and death through Christ today, our God is The Great Deliverer! So, repeatedly pray today for people who need God’s deliverance from sin, death, disease, family conflict, addiction, financial concerns, legal matters, mental illness, abuse, sexual confusion, and temptation. We, his people, need God’s blessing, and we believe that our deliverance comes from the Lord. But even more, those who don’t know Jesus need God’s deliverance, and their deliverance comes from the Lord, too.

My Prayer…

Holy and Righteous Father, please deliver the friends I have on my heart today. Please release them from their bondage and bring them into a time of blessing, comfort, and assurance of your abiding presence. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

  1. Psalm 3:3,8
But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. From the Lord comes deliverance. May Your blessing be on Your people.

David wrote this Psalm as he was fleeing from his son Absalom, who was trying to kill him. The first two verses David is telling God that he has many enemies who are trying to hunt him down and kill him, he is overwhelmed. But in verse 3 the mood changes as David gets his eyes off of himself and onto GOD!
He realizes that he is protected by Jehovah, that He is his shield, his glory, and therefore he can raise his head high with his confidence placed in the God of the universe. He proclaims that deliverance comes from God alone and that His blessing be on His people.

The very same is true for every person who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We are God’s people (children of God) and that comes with the shield (protection) of God and His blessing. As our glory, the Lord gives us honor, dignity, and vindication among the world around us; as the lifter of our head, the Lord encourages and exults us through His indwelling Holy Spirit. As our deliverer He gives us peace in the middle of chaos and a deep seated joy in the midst of sorrow when we cling to Him. And we don’t have to look very far to see that His blessings are all over the lives of His children!

Sometimes the circumstances in life can bring us down, but it is usually because we have gotten our eyes off of Jesus. My favorite verse for times like this is:

    Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

What a beautiful promise from God! Lord help us to keep our minds on Christ and our eyes fixed on Him as we follow His path through this world each and every day for His glory.

Father God, how I love You and Your Word. Thank You for being my Protector, Defender, and Deliverer! Give me wisdom as I seek to do Your will each day Abba, for Your glory, Amen!
