Verse of the Day

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. —1 John 3:1

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Some gifts are too precious for words and too wonderful to fully appreciate. The greatest of these gifts is that we are God’s children. We have been adopted into the Father’s family. Jesus claims us as his younger siblings in God’s family (Hebrews 2:14-18). Even though the world may not acknowledge this, their denials of this truth do not make our adoption any less true (Romans 8:14-17). After all, the world didn’t recognize its Creator when he became flesh in Jesus (John 1:1-31014-18) and lived among the people he had made. God’s Word still proclaims the truth; we ARE the children of God!

My Prayer…

Thank you, Abba Father, for the incredible blessings that come with being your child. I know I haven’t begun to understand all the glorious things this gift means. However, dear Father, I look forward to joyously experiencing this reality while I anticipate the day when I can see you face to face and fully know the meaning of this joy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

  1. 1 John 3:1
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.

I hear people say many times in our world that “we are all God’s children”. That is not what the Word of God teaches. All people are God’s creation, yes, but only those who place their faith in Christ are God’s children, there is a huge difference!
The entire book of 1John is written to those who have already accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
I do not think that we, as God’s children, will fully understand the significance of being God’s child through faith in Christ until we are with Him in heaven one day. What a glorious position we have before God because of the work of Christ on the cross!

    Romans 8:17 (NLT)
And since we are His children, we are His heirs. In fact together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share His glory, we must also share His suffering.

When Christ walked this earth, the majority of people He came into contact with did not recognize Him as God’s Son. They simply did not understand Him. So, as we go through this life, we should not expect them to understand us either! Things we say and do will be contrary to their thinking for they are following a different master than we are.
This fact should not hinder us from continuing to love the unsaved and be an example of Christ to them though! The whole reason we are here on this earth is to tell people of Jesus and to show His love to them each and every day. Some will want Jesus for themselves because of our sharing Jesus with them, but sadly some will not.

Until a person accepts Christ, the Holy Spirit of God is not in them, so much of what they do is not sinful to them. We should not expect them to act as God’s child when they are not! They need Jesus!

Father God, thank You for making me your child through faith in Jesus Christ! Help me to be a worthy example of You to those in my life each day. My desire is point them to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the saving power of His bloodshed for them. I love You so Abba and give You all praise, honor, and glory this day, Amen!
