Verse of the Day

Jesus would not entrust himself to them [the crowd], for he knew all men. He did not need man’s testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man. —John 2:24-25

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Jesus knows people. He especially knew the crowd and how fickle and selfish people often can be. Jesus did not minister to people, heal the broken, or teach the truth to those who would listen to garner public approval or attention. He wanted our selfish fickleness transformed into character, commitment, and compassion. So, if we’re going to know how to better live as a person, the place to start is Jesus. If we want to know how to be compassionate, we observe Jesus as he ministers to the broken people around him. If we desire to live passionately for God, we must focus on Jesus and his commitment to the Father. We need to follow his example and obey his teachings. This lifestyle — or Christyle, as I call it — is not easy. However, it is authentic and invites us to participate in a transformational journey with Jesus as the Holy Spirit shapes us to become evermore like him (2 Corinthians 3:18). As we learn that we can trust Jesus because he knows us, we discover a life of greater depth and richer meaning. Jesus invites us to follow him and discover this life, realizing that Jesus alone knows what is inside us and what we most need to become like him and find life in all of its fullness and wonder (John 10:10).

My Prayer…

Thank you, Father, for sending your Son to show me how to live and to teach me your truth. In the name of your precious Son and my Savior, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

  1. John 2:24-25
But Jesus would not entrust Himself to them, for He knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for He knew what was in each person.

Jesus, being God in the flesh, did not need to converse with people to get a better understanding of what they truly believed. He could see straight into their hearts and minds! And He is still doing so today. He knows when a person truly trusts Him as Lord and Savior, and He also knows when they say they are His but salvation has never occurred for they do not believe in their heart (Matthew 7:21).
If we truly belong to Christ, our actions will prove it (2 Corinthians 5:17). Of course we will still sin, but when we sin there will be conviction in our hearts and we will come before Him and confess that sin (1John 1:9).

I have talked to numerous people in life about Christ and I am always amazed at the fact that a large percentage of them truly believe that Jesus existed, and why wouldn’t they, there are plenty of historical documents that prove this. They even believe that He was a good man and was crucified unjustly. Where many of them differ with me on the topic of Christ is that they are not convinced that He was and is God’s one and only Son. It is so sad, for they are so close to having the salvation that Christ offers, but they will not admit that they are a sinner in need of saving and accept Him as their Savior! They are what I refer to as “fans” of Jesus, but not “disciples” of Him.

So, when Jesus looks into your heart, what does He see? Does He see a heart that loves Him and is dedicated to Him. A life that is centered on serving and obeying Him? Or does He see a heart that is still unrepentant, rebellious, and disobedient to Him?
I beg of you to accept Christ today if you have never done so, He loves you as no other ever will and He died so that you would not spend eternity in hell but could spend eternity with Him in heaven, if you will have Him. What will your answer be to Him today?

My precious Lord Jesus, thank You for opening my eyes to the truth of You and Your Word so many years ago. I have loved You for a long time and yet it feels new every day. My heart just overflows with joy at the thought of Your love for me! I do not deserve such love from You, but am so very thankful for it. Help me to show Your love to others and to be a worthy example of You each and every day. I give You all praise, honor and glory my King of Kings and Prince of Peace, Amen!
