Verse of the Day

Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he? —Isaiah 2:22

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

God will humble the arrogant. He has a day he has designated to do this. But, until that day dawns, God’s Kingdom people must live knowing that even the apparent all-powerful evil of the ungodly around us will be brought to ruin. We must not trust human power; it can evaporate like dew in the morning sunshine. Human power is limited by its mortality — a human “has but a breath in his nostrils,” Isaiah reminds us. When the breath of a tyrant is gone, so is his power. All that remains is the evil residue left behind. Our trust must be in YHWH Tzevaot, the Lord of hosts, God of heaven’s armies, the Lord God Almighty. Anything or anyone else is a dim, small, distorted reflection of the real thing.

My Prayer…

Abba Father, forgive me for those times I have relied on my savvy, wit, and insight into life. Forgive me for not trusting in your deliverance and for relying on underhanded ways, improper partners, and corrupt politicians to bring your righteousness and justice. Please cleanse me and create in me a pure heart and an unquenchable passion for you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

  1. Isaiah 2:22
    Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?

    Of what account indeed! We see it every day in our world, don’t we, people placing their trust in mankind instead of the God who created them? The majority of earths citizens swallow every lie that the devil feeds them through various corrupt government leaders, radical cult leaders, celebrities, sports stars, the mainstream media…..etc. It is not anything new or different, it was going on in Isaiah’s time as well. People were trusting in false gods, kings, and religious leaders who were leading them astray. So, God tells them to stop it.

    Outside of Christ, mankind would rather believe a lie than the truth;
    Romans 1:25
    They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served the created things rather than the Creator – who is forever praised.

    I am always amazed at those in our world who claim to know the “truth”, yet do not. God’s Word is truth, every single word in it is fact, not theory, the world teaches it’s theories as fact and God’s facts as theory! As God’s children we must be cautious of what we believe, everything must be filtered through God’s Word. For example our public school systems teach the “big bang theory” and evolution as fact, this is a lie for God says in His Word that He created the earth and us (Genesis chapters 1&2).

    We must also be careful to not just believe everything even pastors, clergy, or Christian authors tell us. While there are many who are very godly and helpful to us, if what they are teaching is not in line with God’s Word then we are to reject it. In short, God and His Word the bible are the final Authority in the life of every true child of God. Mankind is fallible, God is not! So, who are you going to place your trust in?

    Father God, thank You for opening my eyes to Your truth. Thank You for loving me and for sending Jesus to this earth to die for my sins. I love You so and pray that You help me to always place my trust in You for everything in my life, for Your glory Abba, Amen!
