Verse of the Day

Now he [God] who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. —2 Corinthians 9:10

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

God has blessed us so much in Jesus. He has given us his grace, his mercy, his forgiveness, his Spirit, his power, his community, his Word, and he has adopted us into his family. Amazingly, God longs to bless us even more than he already has blessed us. Why?

  • He is a generous God.
  • He is our loving Father.
  • He wants us to be generous like he is.
  • He longs to see us bless others so he can bless us with more to share.

God blesses us to be a blessing to others!

My Prayer…

You have so richly blessed me, Lord, so please help me see the opportunities you build into each day for me to bless others. Make me a conduit of your blessings. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord, who gave everything so that I might be yours. Amen.

  1. 2 Corinthians 9:10-11
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

It is certainly clear that a person never hurts themselves by giving to the Lord! He tells us here that we will receive certain rewards for living in obedience to God’s Word. Every act of kindness has a reflex action. This is not just speaking of money, it covers many areas of our lives. Notice it says that we will be made rich in every way. The Lord will bless our lives in good relationships with people, great jobs, fruitful churches, and He will bless our ministry to Him! God promises multiple times in His Word that all our needs will be met, not all our “wants”, but all our essentials (Philippians 4:19, Matt. 6:33, Philippians 4:6). He is a good and loving Parent who cares tenderly for His children (Matt. 7:9)!

It is a good practice to get into to, giving financially to the work of Christ! I grew up in a home where this was done on a regular basis. My parents regularly helped those who were full time Christian workers. We had many missionaries and traveling preachers in our home as well, for mom and dad had the gift of hospitality. They also gave money to various charities that spread the Gospel around the world. And they did so cheerfully! This was an excellent example to me in my life and I am so thankful that I was taught that anything I have is God’s, not mine. My husband and I are the stewards of the money and possessions that God has blessed us with. When He lays on our hearts to share we do so with a glad heart!

I believe it is good to evaluate how we are doing in giving to God from time to time. Are we asking Him where we are to share? Are we thanking Him for all that He has blessed us with? God doesn’t need our money and possessions, He asks us to give so that it molds our hearts to be more like His. A heart that is selfless and willing to help others out of love for Him!

Father God thank You for the blessings that You bring to my life! I thank You for my wonderful husband, children, and grandchildren. I thank you for my awesome friends and church family, and for my family here on VOTD! You have blessed me in so many ways and I praise You for all Your care and keeping Abba! I love You so and give You all honor and thanks this day, Amen!
