Verse of the Day

He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment — to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. —Ephesians 1:9-10

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Jesus IS Lord! God’s plan was purposed in Christ. God’s plan centered on Christ coming at the right time. God’s plan was to bring unity in Christ by making him Lord of all! What’s more, this plan that brings our salvation brings God great pleasure. God is the only saving God. Jesus is both our Savior and Lord. So the real issue we face today is this: What area of our lives, our hearts, our secrets, our sin, our rebellion, have we not submitted to his lordship?

My Prayer…

O Precious Father, I know my heart can be deceitful. At times I can even fool myself. But when I kneel in your presence and am convicted by your Word, I find myself reminded of those areas I have not yet fully submitted to your control and Jesus’ lordship. Please, dear Father, use the Holy Spirit to gently show and convict of my self-deception so that I may be wholly lost in your will. In the name of Jesus, Lord of lords, I pray. Amen.

  1. Ephesians 1:9-10
And He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times have reached their fulfillment – to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

The apostle Paul in this and the next several verses in chapter 1 is teaching on the spiritual blessings we have in Christ. In verse 4 he tells how we were chosen to be in Christ before the foundations of the world. In verse 7 he explains how we have forgiveness of our sins through the blood of Christ according to the riches of His grace! And then we come to verses 9 and 10 where Paul expounds on the fact that God has made known to us the mystery of His will.
It is a mystery, not in the sense that it is “mysterious”, but that it is a sacred secret previously unknown but now revealed in the saints through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Those saints in the Old Testament era did not have the indwelling Holy Spirit as we do now when we accept Christ as Savior for Christ had not yet come.

God’s glorious plan originated in His sovereign will, apart from any outside influences: it was according to His good pleasure. He loved us so very much that He sent His one and only Son Jesus Christ to shed His blood for the forgiveness of our sins and making us children of the living God! He did not do this by accident or because He was forced to, He had this plan for us before creation. And it was according to His good pleasure that He planned on and delights in loving us! Does it thrill your heart that God loves you on purpose!?

Then in verse 10 Paul tells of a time after “all times have reached their fulfillment”, the rapture of the church and the Millennial reign of Christ has taken place and all things in heaven and earth will come together under one head, the Lord Jesus Christ. What a glorious final chapter to the human era. Everything that has breath will praise the Lord Jesus, no more is He rejected and despised by mankind, He is the preeminent One, the Lord of all, and the object of universal worship and praise! Oh, what a glorious time this will be, I can hardly wait! Are you ready?

Thank You Father God for Your perfect plan and will, thank You for loving me and for sending Jesus to shed His blood for the forgiveness of my sins, redeeming me to You. I love You so and give You all praise, glory, and honor this day Abba, Amen!
