Deuteronomy 13:4 It is the Lord your God you must follow, and Him you must revere. Keep His commandments and obey Him; serve Him and hold fast to Him.

God is telling His people in this whole chapter just how serious He takes it when they worship other gods. He has zero tolerance for the false prophets that had risen up among them and were enticing them to turn from Him the only true God. He was the One who had brought His people out of Egypt and the slavery they were under there, He had done many signs amongst them and had more than proven He could and would take care of them! So, there was no reason for them to not obey His every command and hold fast to Him and Him alone.

Well, you may say “What’s this got to do with me today?”
When we place our faith in the blood of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins we become children of God. He stepped in and rescued us from the slavery of sin that we were bound to. He did not have to do this, He loved us so much that He wanted to save us from the path of death and destruction that we were on. Now we are going through life with a different position before God than before salvation occurred. We are His people, we are to keep our gaze fixed on Him and follow and revere Him, we must obey and hold fast to Him if we are to experience any joy and peace in our lives. He is our Creator and knows how to take perfect care of His creation! Our part is to have total trust in Him in all things, and to keep our eyes on Him the Author and Finisher of our faith. (Romans 12:1, Hebrews 12:2) We are to have no other “gods” in our lives, nothing is to be placed above Christ, He is to be the very center of our days.

After all that Christ has done on the cross out of His love for us, surely we can face each day with a purpose in our hearts to live for Him because of our love for Him!

Thank You Father God for sending Jesus to pay my sin debt that I had no way of paying! I thank You for loving me when I am so unlovable and for choosing me to be Your child. I love You so and give You praise this day, Amen!
