Verse of the Day

In you, O Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. —Psalm 31:1

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

When all the clutter is stripped away, what is your real hope? When you push aside the diplomas, awards, accolades, and honors, what is the basis of your significance? Only one source for hope and only one basis of significance is trustworthy. Only One — the Lord God — endures forever! Only our Father in heaven guarantees that our life is significant. So let’s place our hope in the Lord and have him be our refuge!

My Prayer…

Lord, God and Redeemer of our Fathers, Keeper of your many promises, thank you for allowing me to place my hope, my future, and my significance in your hands. Give me the courage and the confidence to know that you will not let me be put to shame, but will share with me your righteousness on that day I stand in your presence. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

  1. Psalm 31:1
In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness.

We put our trust in various things each day. Every time we drive across a bridge we are trusting that the engineers and builders knew what they were doing so that the bridge will deliver us unharmed to the other side. When we go to the doctor we are trusting that the diploma on their office wall was given by those who taught the doctor how to be a good doctor and how to care for the human body.

While many don’t think twice about trusting in mankind, most are hesitant to place their trust in God. In actuality, God, is the only place we can fully place our trust for only He is always faithful and can never fail (Joshua 21:45, 1 Corinthians 9:1)!

David penned our verse for today. He certainly had experienced many times of God delivering him from sure death. He also remembered God delivering him from himself as well! From those times that he made sinful choices and needed to be brought back to God’s side. I believe this may be a part of what he meant when he said “let me never be ashamed.”
We have all been ashamed of ourselves before God from time to time. But God being God, when we come to Him with a repentant heart, He delivers us from our own bad choices (1 John 1:9) and gives us grace and mercy that can only come from Him as our Father! What astounding love our Holy and righteous God has for His own children!

    Psalm 28:7
The LORD is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.

So, I ask you today, stop and think about who or what you place your ultimate trust in? If it is anything or anyone other than God, it or they will fail you. But God cannot fail, it is actually the only thing He cannot do! Please place Your faith in Christ (Romans 10:9-10, Acts 16:31) and by doing so become a child of God the Father who can and will be your Deliverer and give you an abundant life full of love, mercy and grace!

My precious Father God, thank You for loving me and for proving Your love for me by sending Jesus to shed His blood for my sin! Thank You for delivering me way too many times to count! I place my total and complete trust in You Abba, for You are my all in all! I love You so and give You all praise this day, Amen!
