Verse of the Day

For this is what the high and lofty One says — he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. —Isaiah 57:15

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Jesus’ coming to earth is wholly and holy consistent with the Lord God who reveals himself in the Old Testament. God is high and holy. God is righteous and majestic. Yet the Lord God is the God of incarnation — the Lord who sees our needs, hears our cries, and comes down to help us. God loves people, especially people who come to him knowing that they need his love and grace. To those who seek him with passion, humility, awe, and reverence, God brings revival that touches the spirit and heart.

My Prayer…

Holy and Righteous Father, thank you for loving me and coming to save me in Jesus. Father, I do come humbly to you asking that you fill me with your Spirit in a more powerful way and revive my heart and stir my spirit to work for your glory in my life today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

  1. Isaiah 57:15
For this is what the high and exalted One says – He who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

God came down to our level to save us by sending Jesus. We could not go to His level of holy perfection, so He sent His holiness through Christ to be our substitute and save us from a lost eternity in hell! When Christs holy and spotless blood flowed down that cross our way to God was opened up for all who would place their trust in Jesus. What a totally awesome God we have that He would care for us enough to send His only Son to suffer, bleed, and die for such fickle, wretched people as we are!

God desires us to have a contrite spirit about us, not a prideful, arrogant nature. You see, God can mold and shape a person who is humble before Him, He can train our heart to follow and obey Him in all things. But if we have a rebellious nature of pride He cannot use that for His glory! If we slip into that attitude we are of no use for sharing Him with those around us.

    Psalm 138:6
Though the LORD is on high, He attends to the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar.

How can we ever thank God enough for all that He is and does? Surely, we can serve Him with our lives (Romans 12:1), and tell those in our life about Jesus and His love for them (Mark 16:15).

Father God, thank You so very much for loving me and for sending Jesus to shed His blood for my sins! I come to you with a contrite heart, a heart that desires to serve You, but that fails You so many times. I look forward to the day when I am with You and perfected like You! I love You so Abba and give You all praise, honor, and worship this day, Amen!
