Verse of the Day

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. —John 17:3

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Eternal life begins, now! That is one of Jesus’ messages in the Gospel of John. For sure, we don’t get to enjoy all of the blessings that await us when we go home to the Father. But, Jesus wants us to know and to experience his love and the Father’s presence in our lives, now! He even prayed it for us! So let’s seek the Father — not to just know about him, but to know him! He longs to draw near to us and will do so as we draw near to him! He is at work in us, so the real issue isn’t his nearness, but our awareness of his presence and work. Let’s open our eyes and our hearts to our Father, and ask him to reveal his presence to us!

My Prayer…

It amazes me, Heavenly Father, that you let me approach you, the Almighty and Holy God. I am humbled by your promise to be at work in my life. Forgive me for the times that I have been so full of myself that I have not acknowledged your presence and grace. Make me more aware of your providential care and your daily presence in me through your Spirit. Open my eyes and heart, dear Lord, that I may know you more fully. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

  1. John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

Jesus spoke these words in a prayer to God. Here is a simple explanation of how eternal life is obtained. It is by knowing God and Jesus Christ. The only true God in contrast to all of the idols which were not true gods. By linking His name with God’s, Jesus is claiming to be the long awaited Messiah. They together are the joint source of eternal life! This puts to rest the false teaching that Jesus never claimed to be the Messiah, in this verse that is exactly what He does.

So many in our world today do not give much thought to where they will spend eternity. They are so occupied with this life which is temporary, that they neglect the eternal life that every human being will have. The question is, where will you spend this eternity that is waiting for you after death? It is either going to be in heaven, because you have accepted Christ as Savior, or in hell because you rejected Him. Those are the only two options we are given and the choice is ours alone!
Jesus is the only way to eternal life, not a popular thing to say in our world today, is it, but true nonetheless.

    John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (GOD) except through Me.

    Acts 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven gives to mankind by which we must be saved.

    Ephesians 2:18
For through Him (Jesus) we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

Father God, thank You for opening my eyes to Your truth and making me Your child through faith in Christ! I pray that if there is one reading this today that does not know You as Lord and Savior they would place their trust in You right now and know a life that far surpasses life without You, and have an eternity with You in heaven. I love You so Abba and give You all praise this day, Amen!
