Verse of the Day

Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. —Hebrews 3:13

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

How serious are we about sin? The Bible reminds us how seriously God views it. The power of sin to entice, entrap, drag us away from our faith, harden our hearts to God, and ultimately engulf us in its power is real and destructive (Hebrews 2:1, 3:12-14, 6:1-8, 10:23-29). Encouragement — especially in its full biblical range of meanings of encourage, comfort, and correct — is one of the great blessings we can bring to each other. Loving Christian friends who encourage each other daily can neutralize sin’s influence and destructive allure.

My Prayer…

Father, I know sin’s power is deceptive and alluring. Help me see those who need my encouragement today so that we can help each other escape sin’s enticing traps. I pray in the name of Jesus, who withstood all of Satan’s tests. Amen.

  1. Hebrews 3:13
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

God did not leave us to our own defenses when avoiding sin. He first of all gave us His indwelling Holy Spirit to lead, warn, and guide us through our temptations to sin, and He gave us other Christ-centered Christians to help us through these times with encouragement to stay true and obedient to God by reminding us of the disastrous effects that sin can have on our lives.

    1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Satan is incredibly deceptive in tempting us with sin. We would be wise to understand that he knows our weaknesses, sometimes better than we do! This is why it is so crucial to have a network of godly people around us that can help us to flee from sin by lovingly warning us if they see us being deceived. It is all too easy for us to become desensitized to sin in this ungodly culture in which we live. But when we stay in God’s Word and stay in fellowship with Him and His people, we can triumphantly live in obedience to God and bring glory to Him in our daily witness for Christ.

The devil’s main purpose is to pull God’s children away from Him and in doing so make them ineffectual for Christ on this earth. It is good for us to remember though, that he has no power over us unless we give it to him! Christ has already defeated satan, sin, and death at the cross (Hebrews 2:14).

Lord help us to take sin as seriously as God does! No matter what the world says, if God calls something sin, it is sin. God created us and has every right to tell us how we are to live. He is the final Authority, not the culture or rulers in this world.

Father God, thank You for loving me and for sending Jesus to die for my sins so that I can live with You for eternity. Help me to live my life in accordance to Your Word and will, and to bring You all honor, praise and glory in the process. I love You so Abba, Amen!
