Inspiring Bible Verse – 2 Peter 3:9

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

This is an excellent verse to show to people when they ask, “Why has Jesus not returned yet?”
God always keeps His Word, for He is perfect and cannot lie (Titus 1:2). God’s timetable and ours however are quite different. If you look back at the Old Testament it doesn’t take long to see that every promise He made was kept, but many times it took hundreds of years to come to fruition. He said He would flood the earth, and He did. He said He would rescue the children of Israel from Egypt and He did. He said that He would send the promised Messiah, and He did. And there are many, many more recorded promises fulfilled. God can be trusted to do exactly what He says He will do every time, without question!

I know as Christians we all long for the return of our precious Lord and Savior to take us from this earth and be ushered in to heaven. But we must remember that when this happens there will be those left on earth who are headed for an eternity in hell. That brings us to the last sentence of today’s verse. God doesn’t want any to perish, even though He certainly knows that some have and will, He is being merciful in His waiting to send Jesus to earth to claim His church. Just think of the thousands of souls that would not have come to Christ if He had come 10 or even 5 years ago. People are getting saved every day in our world, and every day that Christ lingers, more are coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

So, the next time someone scoffs at the coming of Christ, or maybe you even start to doubt that He is ever coming back, just remember the mercy of God and that He is not willing that any should perish. God will indeed send Jesus to take His church at just the right time, and only He knows when that will be.
It may be today, are you ready? Unless you have placed your faith in the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, you will be left behind to all the horrors of what will take place on this earth, and an eternity in hell thereafter. Please accept the free gift that Christ is offering you today before it is forever too late. John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9-10, and Acts 16:31 are excellent verses to read in God’s Word on salvation, if you have never read them please look them up and claim them as your very own today. God loves you so much and desires for you to be in heaven with Him one day, what will your answer be to His gift of salvation?

Thank You Jesus for dying for my sins, thank You for Your faithfulness to Your Word and that You always do just as You say You will. Help me to always live my life in obedience to You and to bring honor and glory to Your name all the days of my life. I love You my precious Lord and Savior, and I give You praise this day, Amen!
