Verse of the Day

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

Psalm 46:1-2

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

God promised to be our refuge and strength. Our challenge is to trust that we are not alone or abandoned when emotional earthquakes, disasters, and tidal waves overwhelm our lives. God is not only our protector and helper. He is with us even when our world seems to be crashing around us. He will rescue us from death or deliver us through death to himself. He will deliver us from evil or empower us to overcome evil. We do not have to fear whatever may come because God is our refuge and strength!

My Prayer…

Holy God, I pray for those who are in the middle of life’s earthquakes today. You know those for whom I am concerned. You know I care about their struggles which are too big for me to mitigate and too painful for me to truly bring comfort. I ask you to bless and be with them now and deliver them quickly. You are our only true hope, and Jesus is our only sure redeemer. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

46 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

  1. Psalm 46:1-2
    God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the sea.

    This Psalm celebrates the praises of Immanuel (God with us). The people of Judah were vividly aware of God’s presence in their lives at this point, they had faith in Him for protection and provision. Lord help us to understand this great truth, our safety and protection comes from God ALONE! Not from government, wealth, power, or people, but only our Lord God. What a blessing!
    So why do we fear then? Anytime we find ourselves in the grip of fear, we are not trusting in the power of God. This is where satan loves for us to be, he knows if we are living in fear we will be miserable and cannot be the effective witness for Jesus Christ that God calls us to be. The devil is fully aware of our weaknesses and will try to attack us daily in those areas. But we have the power of the Holy Spirit in us to defeat satan every time he rears his ugly head. Romans 8:31… “If God is for us, who can be against?”
    Well, we certainly know that God is for us, He sent His only Son to die for us. God is a loving and perfect Parent and would never abandon His dearly loved children (Nahum 1:7).

    This Psalm has comforted thousands of God’s children in times of trouble, for it is not just words on a page such as we find in poetry books, but is a promise found in the living Word of God. A promise that we can cling to for support and endurance through unpleasant or even tragic circumstances that come about in our lives.

    A Mighty Fortress is our God! When we abide in Him all that would distress us melts away, and the perfect peace that only He can provide comes into our hearts and gives us the strength to go on for Him. What a glorious position we have through Christ who has made us sons and daughters of God, and given us the peace that passes understanding.

    Oh yes, God certainly is our refuge and our strength, our ever-present help in times of trouble! We will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the sea. God is our Protector, Praise His Holy name!

    Thank You Father God for Your wonderful peace in troubled times. Thank You for Your precious Word that provides me with encouragement to live this life for You. Help me to obey your Word as I go through this day for Your glory my Abba, Amen!

Amen.
