Holy Preparations
What a beatitude. What a beautiful blessing. What blessedness, grace and benediction flow from these gracious words. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. We are told that there is no place in heaven for anything that defiles.. whether in action or attitude; speech or reaction.. thought or motive. Should not we who soon will be walking through the gates of heaven, not make careful preparations before we enter that Holy Place?
Heavenly Preparations
To a little child who desires to play in heaven’s streets of gold.. the wise Christian mother may reply that heaven must enter our hearts first.. for the Kingdom of God is within each of us that loves the Lord. Yes, we read it in John 17:3 and this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ Whom You have sent. Heaven needs to be in us before we can enter the gates of heaven and in the same way, we must become pure in heart before we ‘see’ God.
Heart Preparations
But what purity. What is heart purity? It is certainly not sinlessness, for all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. A pure heart must first be a clean heart, a washed heart, a penitent heart. Create in me a clean heart O Lord – a new creation in Christ… and renew a right spirit within me – the holy spirit of purity. see Psalm 51:10 A pure heart must first be a clean heart, a washed heart, a penitent heart.. a heart forgiven by God Himself and a heart cleansed by Christ’s blood. Isaiah 1:18 reminds us that, though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
Purified By the Blood
The pure heart of the believer is one that has been cleansed by Christ’s blood. But the heart of the believer needs to be kept pure, by obedient living and close communion with God, in and through Christ. Scripture commands us to keep ourselves un-spotted from the world. We read in 1 Peter 3:10: refrain your tongue from evil, and have lips that they speak no guile. Scripture teaches us to follow Christ in thought and word and deed.. maintaining a heart that is open and yielded to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.. a heart that is kept by every influence of His Divine Spirit .. a heart kept by Him, from the power of corruption that flows all around us, for we read in 2 Thessalonians 3:3, the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.
Terrestrial & Celestial
As the lily remains glistening white amid the soils and bogs where it blossoms.. so does the lowly, loving, patient heart of the believer that is pure in heart remains chaste and unspotted in a fallen world of sin and corruption. Remember, the battles and bruises of Israel were in the terrestrial, (the earthly realm) but the battles and bruises of the Christian are in the spiritual plain, (the heavenly realm).
Heavenly Things
Hebrews 8:5 tells us that the terrestrial, serves as examples and shadows of heavenly things, and become an example of suffering affliction, and of patience, we should bear.. an example that we should follow their steps.. or a warning not to follow their wanderings. We are told, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal and earthly, but mighty through God to the pulling down of spiritual strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:4
Sword of Scripture
The great sword of Goliath decapitated the physical head of the beastly giant, but in Hebrews 4.12 we read that the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword.. piercing even to the dividing asunder of the soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow – and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The Sword of Scripture will demolish the spiritual accusations of the Evil One.
Powerful Weapon
Purity of heart, like meekness of spirit, is a quick and most powerful weapon. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed do all in the name and the spirit of the Lord Jesus. Yes.. all things are to be done decently and in order. In all things, we are to keep the ordinances. In all things, we are to be obedient to God’s Word. Our words should be neither flattering nor accusational, but should be flavoured with salt. Our deeds also should be carried out with much patience and grace. Therefore, if thine enemy hunger, feed him.. if he thirsts, give him drink – for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Romans 12:20
Spiritual Purity
Purity of heart and meekness of spirit runs counter to human pride. They are diametrically opposite to the actions and attitudes of the carnal man. They are in total opposition to the wisdom and the logic of the world. But remember.. blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Hebrews 3
3 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Galatians 6
6 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.

12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.
14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
17 From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
Psalm 86
20 The Lord hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;
2 Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;
3 Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.
4 Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.
5 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the Lord fulfil all thy petitions.
6 Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

Psalm 78
78 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

Psalm 86
86 Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy.

3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.

14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them.
15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid.
17 Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, Lord, hast holpen me, and comforted me.
