A Prepared Body

For of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 2 Peter 2:19

All in All
When Christ is not a Christian’s fullness, that one is filled with self, not Christ. When Christ is not all in all to the body of Christ, it becomes an empty vessel. When the Lord Jesus is not preeminent in our lives, we fail in our ministry. Individually and collectively we lose our testimony when Christ is not our focus. He must be all to those who are called by His name. He must be all in all to me.

Spirit Guidance
If a lighted lamp is not trimmed and cleaned daily..  it flickers and is extinguished. If the oil of the Spirit is not replenished day by day.. we become dry and unprofitable. If the nourishment of His Word is not partaken of consistently.. we lose our strength. If we do not arm ourselves daily for the spiritual battle we will be overcome, for it is the one who overcomes that the Lord seeks to sup with Him and honour. So what is this state of being overcome? – and each of them asked… ”Is it I Lord?” John 2:19

Worldly Wisdom
It is the tragedy of spiritual weakness and decline, through neglect or rebellion. It is a blindness to the command of his Lord – an indifference to His Word. It is a return to a worldly wisdom – a deaf ear to the warning promptings of the Spirit. It is hearkening to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, the pride of life. It is a deliberate move or a careless attitude away from trust in Him to faith in self.

Enemy of the Soul
The enemy of the soul deliberately seeks to shipwreck God’s purposed plan: “For of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought into bondage”. 2 Peter 2:19  And the seven-fold warning of the Spirit is this :- “to him that overcometh..” So how must I overcome the world, the flesh and the satanic forces of evil? Is it searching out special knowledge? Seeking new doctrine? Applying religiosity?

Spiritual Battle
Heaven forbid!! God wants a company of believers to overcome in the spiritual battle. A remnant of believers who strip themselves of self and clothe themselves in Him. He is wanting a body of believers to live and work in the power of the Spirit. He wants a little flock, to take on themselves the burden of the Lord’s own interests.

Unfinished Work
Christ finished His saving work on the cross once for all, and we who are blood-bought rejoice evermore in this finished work – but Christ has an unfinished work that is ongoing today. Check out what Luke told Theophilus. He told of all the things Jesus began. He told of all the things which Jesus began to do and to teach, until He was taken Acts 1:1

Work of Christ
That work of Christ has been entrusted to the church, individually and corporately, but too often the Church has fallen foul of the world, the flesh, and the devil. The Church is in a state of undress and unreadiness for the return of the Lord. The Church, as His body, has become lukewarm towards their first love.

Ears to Hear
But Christ still stands and knocks and asks: If any man will hear… If any woman will hear… If anyone will hear… Let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches… (See Revelation chapters 2 and 3) The Lord still seeks a body, however small, to burden themselves with His will. The Lord still seeks to complete the work He started through whosoever will.

Work of Christ
It must not be me that does the work but Christ working through me – are you willing to say ”not I but Christ worketh in me…?” Galatians 2:20 Praise the Lord that Christ’s work of redemption is complete – Hallelujah! We shout for joy with angels in heaven – “Hallelujah! It is Finished..” But we must not forget that there is an ongoing work in the world today “Christ in you – Christ working through you”

Willing Body
While the Lord was on earth he worked in “a prepared Body” Hebrews 10:5 Now the Lord works from the Father’s throne, through a willing Body – Take my life and use me to do Your will, I pray.
