Verse of the Day

Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love. —Ephesians 6:24

Ephesians 6:24

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

What do you have that lasts forever? Not much unless it is connected to the Lord Jesus Christ. So many things we love and pursue are hollow, fleeting, shallow, and vain. But grace comes; grace stays; and grace lives with those whose love is the Lord Jesus Christ. Neither time nor the grave can strip away our grace in him when he is our Lord and he is our love.

My Prayer…

Holy God, I acknowledge that you loved me long before I knew anything about you. I confess that despite your overwhelming love for me, I have strayed from your will. But Father, deep within my heart I love you and thank you for sending your Son Jesus. His sacrifice and your mercy have not only given me hope, but they have given me confidence to face whatever lies ahead today. Please fill my heart with love for you and your Son by the power of your Holy Spirit. Dear Father, may my allegiance to you be as unwavering and undying as your love is for me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

  1. Ephesians 6:24
Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.

The Apostle Paul wrote this from prison in Rome, as he did many of the books of the bible that he penned. Never do we detect bitterness in him for the circumstances that God has allowed him to be in. Instead we find him joyful, peaceful, and at one point even singing while in prison (Acts 16:25). These prisons were usually infested with rats and disease, smelly, cold, and dark. Yet here is Paul praising God and encouraging others who were in jail with him and writing letters of encouragement to the various Christians at the churches that he started throughout the region! What a perfect example of our joy in life coming from Christ and not from our current circumstances.

The grace that Paul is wishing to “all who love our Lord Jesus Christ” is an incorruptible, lasting, and sincere love. True Christian love says McDonald, “is like a flame that may flicker and grow low at times, but is never extinguished.” I have always loved that quote! We are going to go through times in life that are difficult, there is no getting around that. But since we have the Holy Spirit inside we can maintain our joy and peace in the process through His power. Our undying love for Christ can still be central in our life and hearts instead of our problems. We know from Scripture that God will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 3:15), and that His intent is to prosper us, not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11). Knowing this should give us peace in the midst of chaos, joy in the midst of sadness, and love for God always!

Father God, thank You for Your Word that is Your love letter to mankind. Thank You for Your never ending love for us and for sending Your own beloved Son to save us from ourselves. Help me to always be radically in love with Jesus so that Your perfect will for me will be lived out in my life each day. I love You so and give You all honor, praise and glory this day Abba, Amen!
