Verse of the day

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant– Luke 1:69(NASB)

Luke 1:69

Thoughts on Today’s Verse
Salvation is from the Lord, and God has raised up a Horn of salvation. A horn in Scripture denotes strength and authority, might and power, and God has raised up a Horn of salvation for us, a strong and mighty Saviour from the house and lineage of Israel’s king David Who was to have the authority and power of the Almighty God.

Israel had been waiting for 400 silent years, but slowly and secretly the plans and purposes of God were unfolding. Just as the bright sunshine of a glorious day begins with a tiny pin-point of light whose tendrilled rays gradually increase into a flash of silver sunrise on the eastern horizon before bursting into the sky to shine its light and warmth on the cold, dark, dying earth, so also is the wonderful truth of God’s salvation for human-kind. Hidden secretly in the womb of a young virgin was God’s Horn of salvation. God’s only begotten firstborn Son, Who had been promised so long ago. At last, the Messiah of Israel was coming into the world to shine His light on the people that walked in darkness and to proclaim salvation for whosoever will.

The Messiah had been promised to Israel, for God had pledged that salvation was to come through the people of Israel. Salvation is from the Lord and can only come through believing on the death and Resurrection of the Jewish-born Messiah. God had promised Abraham that through him, all the families of the earth would be blessed, and Christ was of that Seed of Abraham through whom all the world would be blessed. God had also promised David that He would build him a house – and one of his descendants would be born as Messiah of Israel, the Horn of salvation, the one and only Saviour of the whole world.

And 2000 years ago, God fulfilled his promise to raise up a Horn of salvation for us in the house of David, His servant. Jesus Christ was that salvation and He came to the people who walked in darkness and as a light to lighten the Gentiles. But He was despised and rejected of men and returned to His heavenly home in glory, for a time. But the day is coming when He will return as the Son of righteousness with healing on His wings for all who trust in Christ as their Horn of salvation.

And there will be no night, no need for lamps or sun, for the Lord God will shine upon them.

My Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to be the Horn of my salvation. Thank You that He saved me, simply because I trusted in Him as Saviour. Praise Your name forever, AMEN.
