The psalms contain some of the most well-known and well-loved verses in all of the Bible: “the Lord is my shepherd, (Psalm 23)” “God is our refuge and strength,” (Psalm 46) “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.” (Psalms 100:1-5)
In reading them, have you ever asked questions about the psalms? What is the story behind the psalm? Who is speaking in the psalm? What is the message of the psalm?
We might find surprising answers to those questions if we listen to the psalm with Jesus in mind. Then we may hear the psalm telling his story or raising his voice or conveying his message. It’s not the only way to listen to a psalm, but there is something right about listening to a psalm this way.

100 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
