Bible Verse of the Day

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. —1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

We are God’s temple! God lives in us. What we do in our bodies is part of our worship to him. We are called to not only abstain from impurity, but we are called to glorify God in our bodies and honor the sacrifice by which our holiness was bought.

My Prayer…

Father, I confess to you that I sometimes lose sight of how precious my body is to you. With aging and the other challenges that daily remind me that my body is a vessel of decay, I find it hard to believe that I can glorify you with it. Please, through your indwelling Spirit, quicken in me a deeper reverence and appreciation of your presence in me. In the name of Jesus, my atoning sacrifice, I pray. Amen.

  1. As children of God we have His Spirit living on the inside of us, so we are called to a holy and dignified life. Everywhere we go we take God with us. This is a sobering thought, isn’t it? We are to treat these bodies that God gave us and dwells in with care and respect, never should we expose our bodies to substance abuse, gluttony, sexual sin, or anything else that can harm that which God dwells in.
Romans 12:1 tells us to present our bodies to God as living sacrifices that are holy and pleasing to God. In reality our bodies do not even belong to us, they belong to the Lord. They are to be used for His service, we should be careful to not use bad language or gossip with our mouths, not let our feet take us to ungodly places, or use our hands to do any unrighteous thing.

We are bought with a price. What was that price, it was the precious blood of Christ. When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior we became blood-bought children of God. This is not something that God takes lightly! He purchased us and has every right to expect us to live holy and clean lives before Him, which we can do with the power of His indwelling Holy Spirit. If we attempt to live a life of obedience to God on our own strength we will fail miserably every time, but in Him all things are possible (Philippians 4:13)!

We are not our own, He is our Lord and Master and it is our part to obey and say “yes Lord”, Your will be done.
If after knowing this we take our bodies and use them in a sinful way, we are acting as a thief by taking that which does not belong to us! Rather we should use these bodies to glorify God in service to Him.

Thank You Jesus for coming to this earth and shedding Your precious life-giving blood for my sins, help me to live a life that is pleasing to You, I love You so and give You all the praise, glory, and honor that You so richly deserve this day! Amen.
