Bible Verse of the Day

The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. —1 Corinthians 7:4-5

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Paul told us that our bodies were not our own, but that Christ bought us at a price and that we should glorify God with our bodies. Once again, in chapter 7, Paul reminds us that when we marry, our body is not our own. It belongs to our spouse. We are to use our bodies to bless, please, and bring fulfillment to our marriage partner. It is not our job to make sure they bless us, but our job is to make sure we bless our husband or wife. Such mutual self-giving and sacrificial love are crucial to healthy marriages. Without such loving sacrifice, we cannot please God or bless our spouse.

My Prayer…

Holy and loving God, please forgive me when I have cheapened myself by not treating my body as a gift to you. Whether I am married or single, I want to use my body in ways that are holy and pleasing to you and in ways that will bless my marriage partner if I am married. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Bible References

The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

  1. O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe. You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger. — Psalm 31:1-3

Yesterday we celebrated the birth of America which after many birth pains became the United States of America, one nation under God, with liberty and justice for all. We are so truly blessed but I am afraid that we have grown to take our blessings for granted. I am sure everyone can relate to the loved yet spoiled child that grows to ignore his parents wishes.

In Jeremiah 7:5-7, the prophet Jeremiah told God’s children want God wanted in order to live in the land that was given to them by the Grace of God. A father warning His spoiled children. Our present day prophets are giving us the same warnings. Jedidiah Morse, one of our founding fathers once said, “To the kindly influence of Christianity we owe that degree of civil freedom, and political and social happiness, which mankind now enjoys … whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republic forms of government- and ALL BLESSINGS which flow from them-must fall with them.”

In Isaiah 6:1 the Lord tells us what He will do for us (you may live in this land), “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of God’s tidings to the meek, the poor, and the afflicted. (Luke 4:18). First our Lord was given the power to forgive with His Grace. This removes our guilt and condemnation which grants us peace. Second, Isaiah 6:2, we shall receive the BLESSINGS of our Lord in our faith whether we deserve them or not in our Lords grace. (Matt. 11:2-6, Luke 4:18,19; 7:22). And third, Isaiah 6:3 in Our Lords blessing and in our Faith He shall turn our negative circumstance into a positive within His timing and Will.

Praise the Lord our Father in Heaven, Abba and lift up your hearts to receive His Grace. Lord, You are our everlasting Light in the darkness, You are our glory and our beauty. Please continue to Bless America, bless me, bless my family, bless my friends and bless my enemies.

Peace be with us and keep us safe.

    Amen
