Verse of the Day

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? —Matthew 6:25

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Food and clothing are some of the biggest worries of our human existence. They have been for centuries. God reminds us, however, that no matter how important these may seem to be in our world, life is really much bigger than these things and God wants us to trust that he will supply them when we trust in him.

My Prayer…

Father, please help me rein in my envious and covetous heart. I know my desire for things makes me anxious and near-sighted in my faith. Give me a more expansive view of your Kingdom so I can use your blessings to help others. In the name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

  1. Matthew 6:25
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”

Jesus is teaching in verses 25-34 of Matthew 6 to not worry about having enough food to eat and clothing to wear. When we worry about such things, we cannot worship and serve God the way that He wants us too for our thoughts and actions are captivated by our concerns. It may not be that we are so much concerned with our needs for today, but our needs in the future.
I know many people who are stressed out about having enough money to meet their retirement needs, and I know some young people who are worried about having enough money for college expenses, God wants us to trust Him with our needs.
Such worry about the future is sin because it denies the love, wisdom, and power of God. It denies the love of God by implying that He dos not care for us. It denies His wisdom by implying that He doesn’t know what He is doing. And it denies His power by implying that He isn’t able to provide for our needs.

When we worry like this, it quickly becomes the center of our thoughts and lives and all our energies are wasted on trying to take care of ourselves and not on doing what God created us to do. He created us to love, worship and serve Him for we are His representatives on earth. He is more than capable of meeting our needs in the present and the future!

That being said, we are not to just lay around and not work. The Bible says in Thessalonians 3:10…“The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
The key is balance. Work, or anything else for that matter, should not be first in our hearts. God is to be first in our lives, He is to be at the center of all that we say and do. God can be served where you work. More than likely you work around some unsaved people. Be an example of Christ to them each day. God may have you in the job you are in right now because someone you work with needs to hear the gospel message, needs to see the love of Christ lived through your life! When we as God’s children go where He leads we need not worry about anything, for He will work all things out for our good and His purposes!

    Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

Father God, thank You for Your excellent care of me. You are such a wonderful Provider and Sustainer. Help me to not worry over things in this life, help me to cast my cares on you (1 Peter 5:7), and live my life according to your perfect will for me. I love You so Abba and give You all praise, honor, and glory this day, Amen!
