Verse of the Day

Woe to the worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword strike his arm and his right eye! May his arm be completely withered, his right eye totally blinded! —Zechariah 11:17

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Zechariah criticized Israel’s worthless shepherds in his prophecy. Paul warned church shepherds that Church leadership is an extraordinary and sobering responsibility and should be conducted with reverential humility (Acts 20:17-38). Those seeking status or privilege by becoming church leaders must know that the good Shepherd, Jesus (John 10:10-18), will deal with them harshly when he comes in his glory. Anyone who has abused God’s people or misused their incredible responsibility to shepherd God’s flock will receive harsh judgment. However, those who have followed Jesus’ example as a shepherd will be generously rewarded (1 Peter 5:1-4).

My Prayer…

Loving Shepherd, please bless your church with qualified shepherds who love you and passionately care for your sheep. Please give these faithful leaders a sense of your nearness, help, and pleasure as they faithfully carry out their responsibilities to you and your sheep. I pray in the name of Jesus, your Lamb that was slain for our sins. Amen.

This verse is speaking of the Antichrist who will be on earth after the rapture of all believers in Christ
Verses 15-17 are telling of how God will deliver Israel over to the antichrist because they have rejected the Good Shepherd (Jesus Christ). They will now be given a false shepherd, this shepherd will not only desert them but he will rob and slay them. Israel rejected the Good shepherd that God sent to them and they were scattered throughout the earth for doing so. During the end times they will follow the antichrist thinking that he is their savior only to find out too late that he is their enemy!

We can take this on a personal level today by likening it to our own lives and just who we place our faith and trust in. Our 100% faith and trust should only be placed in Jesus Christ for only He is God’s Son. There are many good and godly leaders in our world today, but they are human and capable of being lead astray at times. God’s Word should always be followed and if someone is preaching or teaching contrary to God’s Word their instruction is to be rejected by Christians.

Jesus Christ will never lead His followers astray for He is the Good Shepherd who loves the sheep and lays His life down for them.
    John 10:11
“I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.”

Father God, thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sins and to be the Perfect Shepherd to lead me through this life. Help me to always keep my eyes fixed on You and to bring You glory each and everyday that You grant me, I love You Abba, Amen!
