Verse of the Day

May the God of peace, …that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will. —Hebrews 13:20-21

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

A good shepherd protects his sheep, feeds and nourishes them, equips them to face the trials of life, and provides them with everything they need to do what is good for them and those around them. As Psalm 23 reminds us, no shepherd equips his sheep quite like the ultimate Shepherd, God our Father and the Son who came to earth as our Shepherd (John 10:10-18). Let’s unleash the Lord‘s power into the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ by praying for God to equip them “with everything good for doing his will”!

My Prayer…

O Great Shepherd of the sheep, please release the power of your Spirit in your people and equip us to do great things in our day, as the first Christians did in their day. Equip and strengthen us to serve others, and may all we do be done to your glory and the blessing of others. In the name of my hero, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

  1. There is a mingling here of the divine (God), and the human (us). God equips us with everything good, He works in us that which is well pleasing in His sight. He does it through Jesus Christ, then we carry out His will in our lives. God places the desire in us to obey Him and gives us all the power we could ever need to do so!

We however, have to choose daily to follow Him as our Great Shepherd. We must be diligent to not get distracted along our way in life by things of this world that would pull us away from God’s will and into a life of disobedience to Him. In other words we must be smart and alert sheep! As we start out each day our prayer should be for the Lord to make us aware of His will for that day, and to help us keep our eyes fixed on Him so as to avoid the pitfalls that can so easily trip us up in our walk for Christ.

The power is already in us for doing His will through the Holy Spirit. We never have to worry that God will call us to do something that He will not equip us to do.
I have experienced numerous times in my life the power of God doing things through me that I would never have thought possible. But I had to step out in faith first, then He was there to bring me through what He had put upon my heart to do. There is nothing more rewarding in life than being used by the God of the universe. Outside of Christ I am so very unworthy, but through Christ’s blood shed for me I am God’s Child and dearly loved by Him!

Father God, thank You for loving me and for sending Jesus Christ to this world to die for my sins. I ask that You help me to know Your will when I see it and to carry it out in the confidence that only You can give Father. I love You so Abba and give You all honor, praise, and glory this day, Amen!
