Verse of the Day

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. —Ephesians 6:12

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

We are at war! We face daily battles, and those struggles are not just with sin and temptation. We have a real foe who desires our destruction. But, our enemy has already been defeated, and his angels stand rebuked. So, let’s keep our spiritual vigor, knowing that we’re not playing church, but we are fighting for the Kingdom. No wonder Jesus taught us to pray the following in the Lord‘s model prayer: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13). Yes, we are at war with the evil one — against his lies, and his desire to destroy us. But we can be confidently courageous and joyous because our Lord has overcome the evil one and his malevolent grip on our world (John 16:33Colossians 2:15).

My Prayer…

Almighty and Victorious King, I praise you for conquering sin, death, hell, and the evil one for us. You have made us righteous and sinless through your victorious sacrifice, ensuring our victory with you. Thank you, Lord Jesus! Amen.

  1. Ephesians 6:12-13
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the whole armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

We must always keep in mind that satan and his demons, which are fallen angels, are present and powerful in this world. Their goal is to keep the unsaved from coming to salvation through Christ, and to harass, oppress, and try and trip up those who are already Christians in their walk for Christ. There is no need for us as God’s children to live in fear of these demonic beings, for they have no power over us. No demon can indwell a true child of God for the Holy Spirit already occupies our heart and being, but they can mess with our circumstances in life, all the while trying to steal our joy and destroy our testimony for Christ.

We can look back at history and see how satan did indeed possess people throughout the ages in one form or another. There have been wicked rulers, governments, and authorities who did horrific things to human beings and outright hated and killed Christians; sadly, this still goes on in our world today.

But, we are children of the living God of the universe, and He is our Defender and Protector, our Mighty Fortress! We have the full armor of God to do battle against evil with! If you go on and read through verse 20 of this same chapter, Paul lists all the ammunition we have at our disposal to slay these evil forces that try and mess with our lives. We are NOT to live in fear. Christ has overcome sin, death, and hell on the cross, He has already defeated satan (1 Corinthians 15:57)! Victory in Christ is already ours, all we need to do is claim it!

When we stay grounded in Scripture, and in prayer and fellowship with God, our lives on this earth will put to shame all those who mock our precious Savior, for He is truth, and He is love! When we abide in Christ we can go forward in life with complete confidence that all things will work out for our good because we are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Thank You my precious Lord Jesus for shedding Your pure and innocent blood for me. Thank You for defeating satan, and saving my soul for all of eternity! I love You and give You all praise this day my Redeemer, Amen!
