Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. —1 Timothy 4:12

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

How do you command the respect of others when you are young? You don’t! You earn that respect by the character and quality of your life. Those of us who are older must recognize and validate younger Christians who are people of character and faith. We need to encourage them and fuel their desires to honor the Lord. Those of us who are younger need to live a life of character that cannot be questioned — you won’t be perfect, but you can be passionate about living for Jesus. Character, morality, faith, and loving-kindness are essential attributes for us as disciples of Jesus, no matter our age.

My Prayer…

Holy God, we thank you for those in our church family who are young, stand for your character, and live godly lives despite pressure from their peers to do otherwise. Father, I also thank you for those older in the faith, who have given us a chance to use our gifts, and who have influenced and encouraged us in our spiritual growth. Please help us keep our church united in mission and purpose across the different age groups, to your glory and for the growth of your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

  1. “Character, morality, faith, and loving-kindness are essential attributes for us as disciples of Jesus, no matter our age.”

When the Lord call someone to be a leader in church, that person deserve respect, for the Lord never make a mistake, He knows what He is doing and why call that specific person for a leadership. The Lord call the person and the Lord prepares that person. Nobody is called without being preparation. That person need the support of the whole church, the interceding prayers of the people who work closely to him/her. We need to remember that there is one who is in opposition, to the whole Body of Christ to serve the Lord, that is satan. Every believer has to be at the Lord’s side and never at satan’s side. We belong to Jesus and He is the light, the truth, He is righteous, just and holy, we follow His steps.
The enemy is in darkness, is a liar, wicked, evil, envy and more and more. When these bad attitudes comes close to us and wants to control our lives and decisions, we need to do as the word of the Lord says in the book of James, to humble ourselves to the Lord, resist the devil rejecting them in the name of Jesus, and the enemy has to flee.
Another and a very important thing that we need to remember is this, that being an opposition to the leader called by the Lord, the opposition is against the Lord not to the person. And the Lord protects His servants always, if they make a mistake it is the Lord who deal with that, and the church need to pray in the Spirit, this means a very profound prayer.
The Lord says: ““Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.” (Psalms 105:15; 1Chronicles 16:22) and it doesn’t matter the age of the person, or if is a female or male, prophet, pastor, evangelist, teacher, or a worshiper, they are servants of the Lord. Obedience to the word of the Lord it is rewarded, the Lord blesses the person who respect others.
At the same time the servant has to be and walk like the word of the Lord says to the leaders, “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment…” (Romans 12:3) “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” (Romans 12:9). The whole 12 chapter of Romans it is good for a servant to use as guide or as measure to see how is doing as a servant of God.
The secret for a servant to finish well, to do what is right, to be a good example to others, (testimony) and to please the Lord is love! Love God and love people! Without love there is not a good servant, the leader follow people not the Holy Spirit, take wrong decisions based on the flesh and emotions, like king Saul, (1 Samuel 13). Where there is no love, there is the flesh who controls the emotions, and the enemy likes it and deceive the servant of the Lord.
So my brothers and sisters lets do our job, as a church members, let us respect our leaders and pray for them; and the Servants of the Lord serve the Lord with love, with gladness and joy, by faith and faithfulness, in righteousness and holiness, with patience and kindness, with truth and humility, integrity and in the reverent fear of the Lord. Amen!
