Verse of the Day

Of what use is money in the hand of a fool, since he has no desire to get wisdom? —Proverbs 17:16

Proverbs 17:16

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

What do you value more, money or wisdom? Look closely at our verse. Money without wisdom is worthless. Money will not be put to good use and will soon evaporate in the hands of one who is foolish. Like Solomon, rather than pursuing riches or fame, let’s seek godly wisdom, and the other things in life — like money — will take care of themselves.

My Prayer…

Eternal God and wise Father, please give me the wisdom to know what is most important to pursue with my time, effort, and money. Please bless me with your holy wisdom so I may invest my life in what is truly meaningful and live to your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

  1. Proverbs 17:16
Of what use is money in the hand of a fool, since he has no desire to get wisdom?

Lots of people do many things, even illegal and immoral acts, to attain money. But without wisdom, it is worthless to them. Our prison system is full of individuals who acted as fools to try and become wealthy, but instead were stripped of all they had and locked away for many years!

Another take on this verse is the true definition of wisdom. Some may think this to mean schooling. However, God’s Word doesn’t associate the word wisdom with education. It does however speak of wisdom as listening to and following God.
    James 5:1
If any of you lacks wisdom you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

    Proverbs 2:6
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

The wisdom that this world offers is foolishness to God. Having an education is fine for getting the job you desire to have in this life as long as that education doesn’t go against God’s Word. Unfortunately, in many of our schools and universities today, the teaching is in direct opposition to what God states very clearly in His Word. Several people I know have been pulled away from God because of what they were taught was the “truth” in school. So, if you go to a school that gives you training for your chosen career, disregard anything they say that is in conflict with the Bible. You must be choosy about what you believe that comes from their teaching.

A wise person will pray for wisdom each and every day. When we do, God promises to give us HIS wisdom in this life which always ends in success in every area of our lives!

Father God, thank You for sending Jesus to this world to die for my sins. Thank You for Your wisdom that is taught only in Your Word the Bible. Help me to follow You all the days of my life, for that will be true success! I love you so Abba and give you all glory, honor, and praise this day, Amen!
