Verse of the Day

Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. —1 Peter 2:11

1 Peter 2:11

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

This world is not our destination. This world is not our home. This world is the place of our journey! Many things here can distract us from our goal and destroy our desire to complete our journey. These kinds of distracting and sinful desires are actually at war with us. However, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can say “NO!” to them. Then we can live with confidence and character before our world which is trapped in darkness desperately needing God’s light.

My Prayer…

Forgive me, holy God, for my failure with sin. Empower me, almighty God, so that I may grow closer to your character and holiness. Help me, loving God, to live a holy life attractive to my friends, family, and neighbors, so they may come to glorify you by living your life, too. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

    Dear friends, I urge you as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

    Do you ever feel like this world is just not your home? Well, if you have accepted Christ as Lord that feeling is completely accurate, for this world is not our home, we are aliens and strangers here. Our true home is in heaven with God!
    Knowing this we are to abstain from sinful desires that are against our soul. When a person accepts Christ as Lord and Savior a change happens, the Holy Spirit of God takes up residence inside of them. No longer can a person who has truly become born again continue to live in sinful ways and not be convicted by the Spirit for doing so. We will still sin, but when the Holy Spirit makes us aware of that sin we are to do as 1John 1:9 says and confess it to God.

    We have all know people who claim to know Christ as Lord yet there is absolutely no evidence in their lives that they have ever been born again. They continue to behave exactly like the unsaved with no conscious thought of having sinned before God. Those are who Christ refers to in Matthew 7:21-23, they are perhaps very “religious” people, but they have never come to saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, they have a profession not a possession!

    Those of us who call God Father through faith in Jesus Christ should purpose in our hearts and lives to live solely for Him. Turning our backs on the ways of the world, yet going into the world to share Jesus with them. We are to be IN the world but not OF the world. Our Master is God and our lives should prove it, when they look at us they should see a picture of Christ in our words and deeds!

    Romans 12:1-2
    Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing, and perfect will.

    Thank You Jesus for dying for me, thank you for loving me and for Your indwelling Holy Spirit. Help me to be a reflection of You each and every day; I love You so my Savior, the Author and Finisher of my faith, Amen!
