Verse of the Day

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. —Romans 8:1-2

Romans 8:1-2

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Grace sets us free in Jesus from our most destructive bondage, our fear of God’s judgment. God’s grace and our faith in Jesus liberated us from the law, which convicts and leads to death. The Holy Spirit sets us free, not just to fulfill what the Law intended but also to deliver us from the penalty of death that the Law required. In Jesus, and by the power of his Spirit, God sets us free to be his children forever!

My Prayer…

Abba Father, thank you for your deliverance. I know you paid a very high price to give it to me. Forgive me for not letting that deliverance make my heart soar with confident joy. Lead me by the power of your Spirit so that I can experience the freedom and joy of your salvation — not just at the end of my days, but in the moments of today. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

  1. Romans 8:1-2

When we trust in the blood of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins, we are at once “in Christ”. The penalty of all our sin is paid for by His atoning blood. We are now joint-heirs with Jesus, and stand before our Holy God as His child, cleared of our sin and no longer under condemnation!
Let that fact sink in for a moment. We know how sinful and undeserving of God’s forgiveness we are outside of Christ. But Jesus loves us so much He came and died a horrible death on the cross to save us for eternity! That is love, why would anyone reject that kind of love!!

There is no good work we can do to accomplish this position in Christ, for no work or act that we can do with these bodies has any power to save our souls, only faith in Jesus will give us eternal life in heaven, and bring us into the position of being “in Christ Jesus”.
    Romans 5:9
Much more then, being justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

Then Paul goes on to explain how the “law of the Spirit” sets us free from the “law of sin and death”, all through the Old Testament we can observe how the law brought death to mankind because he could not keep it. But when Jesus came He fulfilled the law by His final blood sacrifice and atoned for our sins once and for all. Now we have His indwelling Holy Spirit which enables us to obey God and live our lives in a pleasing way before Him through the power of His Spirit. No longer do we “have to” obey the law for atonement of sin, instead His blood made final atonement for us and we are now set free to obey Him out of our love and gratitude towards Him. We have been changed from the inside out. We have a new nature in us now, a nature that desires to obey God and to please Him with our words and actions!
    2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (NIV)
